I think a great example to look at is The Suicide Squad. If you look purely at the numbers, Suicide Squad (2016) brought in ~750m globally versus The Suicide Squad (2021) which brought in ~170m globally.
The first Suicide Squad was one of the worst DCEU films. The second The Suicide Squad was one of the best DCEU films and handed DC Studios to James Gunn (and Peter Safran).
I think looking purely at the numbers Superman is likely to come out as small victory (monetarily). However as a franchise, it’s a solid start.
Exactly! Hell the article even seems to understand that but then ignores it.
The simplest option here is that Lois is just confronting Superman with the fact that he isn’t media-savvy at all. He’s been tossing himself softball questions to answer, and that’s the extent of his interaction with the media… That would be an easy enough interpretation if she actually followed their confrontational conversation (I can’t really call it an investigative interview) with any warnings for him, or insight into her intentions.
She makes it clear that he can’t handle the interview. She asks questions that he should be able to answer. Is the foreign government lying? Probably. Can you prove it? No. Did you try? No, but I did kidnap the foreign President.
Whenever you send a card to get graded, no matter which grading service, they serialize every single card
Wouldn’t serializing a card “damage” the card and make it less valuable? I know the grading service wouldn’t say so, but that’s because they damaged it.
Oh absolutely! I was annoyed at Andor until I rewatched Rogue One and realized how little their shit was together. Which lead me to rewatch the original trilogy where it really highlights how lucky the rebellion was.
Haha, that’s excellent.
For the DCU it looks like we have Kendra Saunders Hawkgirl, which I’m not familiar with.
I know more Shayera Hol Hawkgirl, largely from the DCAU/Timmverse.
I’m excited to see where this Hawkgirl goes.
That’s fair. We do get lots of Saw backstory in Clone Wars, Rebels & Bad Batch. I was just focusing more on the live action Forest Whitaker version.
I also have a hard time seeing them as all the same character. Possibly because the storyline is told over such a long period and since I watched Rogue One before Clone Wars / Rebels, told out of order.
The more you think about it, I want less of a “Saw” miniseries, and more of a “Rebel Leaders” miniseries. Andor covers Andor, Luthen & Mon. Between Andor and Rogue One we get where Saw is now (and his end). Rebels gives us Hera (and crew), although we don’t see them during the Episode IV era, and it looks like their story is post Jedi in Ahsoka. I have to guess we could get something from Omega (Bad Batch), although I don’t know if she would be high up in command.
I dunno really. Lots of areas to tell story.
Hawkgirl didn’t really have much to do and I don’t think Gunn knew what to do with her, which is a shame. Giving her a hawk shriek instead of actual dialog was… a choice. She needed more speaking lines.
Personally I thought the shrieking was fun. I do agree she should have had more dialogue and story in general, but the story was already full, so I understand somewhat. Mr. Terrific got a great story beat. Guy Gardner stole a lot of scenes he was in. It would have been nice to give her something more.
And I say “something more” because I do think her dropping the villainous president of the foreign country was a key moment.
We see earlier in the film when everyone is fighting the kaiju that the Justice Gang™ don’t have much appreciation for it as a life form. But also they don’t have many options.
But when Hawkgirl has the dictator, she absolutely has options. In fact he barely seems bothered as he mocks her. And then she drops him to his death.
We know how Superman would react to that. But what about Gut Gardner? Mr Terrific? Lois’s interviews with Superman seemed to imply that actually unilaterally is a problem. Isn’t that what the Justice Gang just did? Superman gave him a stern talking to. Hawkgirl killed him.
While this doesn’t tell me a lot, it does make me interested in her as a character and keeps me looking forward to wherever she shows up next.
The interview wherein I try to not-so-subtly convince Academy Award-nominated writer Beau Willimon to make a Saw Gerrera ‘Andor’ spin-off series.
Dew it.
Saw is a fun character. I’d love to see more about how the rebellion came together, especially how it almost didn’t.
Watching Andor I was a bit annoyed at how poorly put together and ineffective the Rebellion was. In the first part of season 2 Andor is on a planet and the two rebel factions are fighting each other. I thought, “Wow, they’re really gonna pull it together in just a few short years”.
Then we reach the end of the season… And everyone is just fighting each other, but in a nicer building.
Then I rewatched Rogue One… and everyone is fighting one another.
The Rebellion is better, sure, but they don’t trust one another and are constantly in-fighting. As the audience we see what Luthen is doing and how (seemingly) effective he is, but to the rest of the council he’s a wild card.
Then you have Saw. Luthen thinks Saw is a wild card (which he is). He’s also incredibly paranoid.
Suffice to say the Rebellion coming together feels like pure luck. Which, given the Star Wars setting, is actually perfect.
Hey, you’re ruining it for the rest of us!
Correct!
The moment they announced Cats I knew it wasn’t going to work.
First, the story sucks. A bunch of cats prancing around and learning not to be a dick to that one cat.
Second, Cats is a spectacle. The reason you go see Cats in a theater is for the spectacle. Everyone is dressed up and dancing around. It’s meant to be an experience. You can’t translate that to film.
I’d have to watch the film again but publicly I thought Luthor was just in trouble for starting/funding a foreign war. Which, while villainous, doesn’t seem super villain to me (and make Belle Reve necessary). Plus, apart from being super smart, his tech wouldn’t be available to him in prison.
My guess, given how high up in the government it seems General Flag is, that he pulled some strings to get him somewhere he has influence and insight into.
Although I’m guessing someone like Amanda Waller is more than willing to make a deal with someone like Lex and that will be how he gets out early.
Superman’s Hawkgirl doesn’t get any backstory, so it’s unclear whether this version is reincarnated, an alien from the planet Thanagar or something else entirely.
Promotional material names her as “Kendra Saunders” who is historically not an alien.
Additionally a handful of scenes in Superman point out that Superman is an alien. I think if Hawkgirl were an alien someone would have mentioned it.
So it’s probably a reincarnation storyline.
Q: What is Superman about?
A: Superman trying to reconnect with his roots by opening a Kryptonian restaurant in a skeptical Midwestern town.
The scene where the delivery truck is late and he’s on the phone, but stuck on hold for 36 minutes, experienced in real time, was absolutely genius. It really highlights Superman’s humanity.
I don’t mind one sentence articles, especially if that’s all there is to report. Although a little bit of context, especially if it’s not BREAKING news is appreciated.
I do however mind clickbait articles. So I wanted to save a click.
They’ve been looking for a project to do together.
Edit: I was confused, that’s just earlier in this episode. Correct!
My family brought me here on Monday, but I broke free and went on a bit of a bender.
