I’m not a fan of that either. I’m not throwing shade at the UK in particular - the US also does way too much grass. Honestly, maybe the UK does it better, but the overuse of grass in the US and the consequences of such is what makes me find it distasteful (whether it’s green or not).

The star wars sequels were very poorly thought out and fans were disappointed and upset. The average person is not very good at analyzing the reasons for something like that, though, so a lot of them bought into the narrative that the Star Wars sequels were ruined by wokeness. That was undeniably part of a wave of reactionary sentiment which swept Trump into office. Whether Star Wars was a lynchpin of it or not, I’m not sure, but it’s plausible.

He’s the purest representation of right-wing principles we have seen. That’s not the same thing as conservative. A conservative position opposes all change - including change to the right. So I’d say that Pence is right.

If anything, the Democrats are the more conservative party right now, and the MAGA Republicans are trying to move the country further to the right. I still don’t think that a conservative position is good, but it’s better than a fascist position.

I think it’s because a poll showing that opinions are shifting that way gives people hope about things getting better, because the hope is that public opinion would drive politics.

It wouldn’t really be news to people who are struggling that things are bad. But it is news (and good news at that) if other people’s opinions are shifting to acknowledge that.

From my experience it seems like programming communities in general are pretty chill and accepting. It might be related to the large portion of programmers that are neurodiverse and LGBTQ+.
