I really wish I was online during those times. Then again I was only 5 years old in 1995, so it’s not like I could do much but play games on Nickelodeon’s website at that point in life. It’s fun looking at web archives of old GeoCities sites!

I know there’s some Discord alternatives but they’re really not as good. Guilded was decent but after they were sold to Roblox and forced users to make an account on Roblox to keep using their platform, many people ditched them and went back to Discord. I’ve tried a few Discord alternatives like Revolt and Nerimity but they’ve got a long way to go before they’re close to being a good alternative IMO.

I just joined Lemmy after lurking on the Fediverse subreddit for the past few weeks. I’m always open to joining new platforms, and I’m a quick learner. I don’t think my wife is willing to leave Reddit for Lemmy though… But I do suspect we’ll see some more people joining after this and possibly after they start locking content behind a paywall too.
