Try appealing to their egoism. Don’t say that the ones that have nothing must be helped. Tell them that if they lose everything, society will help them. Let’s say they have a farm. If a year the crops don’t give enough or the animals get sick, they’ll be helped by society.

My first thought.

Easy: reverse the story. No more “society has to help the ones that are on the bottom”. Change it to “if you ever have a problem, society will be there to help you”, “society will make your working right better, you’ll win more, have more time for yourself, …”. Use their egoism against their ideas.

I’d go one step further: the work phones first. Something like a new kind of BlackBerry (cheaper screen) that can be folded.
