3·2 days agoMan, me neither. I didn’t even know who it was until you said “Revenge of the Nerds” and I thought “THAT guy?!” I didn’t even know his name.
Absolutely no idea his brother was the Kung Fu guy.
Who could ever root for a team that actually goes to the White House under Donald Trump? Have some self respect.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Gas-Guzzler Revival Risks Dead-End Future for US Automakers | Big trucks and engines are back among US automakers, even as electrics gain ground around the globe.English7·2 days agoThe only thing crazy about this is that this journalist is using the term “back.”
It was just a few years ago that there were more large cars on the market because the automotive chip shortage supposedly made it less profitable to sell smaller cars.
Large vehicles aren’t “back,” they’ve intentionally created an industry that makes stupid people feel more capable with a large vehicle.
The narratives journalists create to perpetuate these stupid markets are honestly impressive.
I assumed if the pavement was AI, the grass probably was too.
This is horrifying, but also pretty funny because all the grass is AI rendered.
Set on one of the most prestigious roads
Literally on the road.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Game recommendation request: Offline "MMORPGs"English
2·3 days agoYes!! I came here to recommend Xenoblade Chronicles X. It’s the most MMO feeling game I’ve ever played that wasn’t an MMO.

Hockey@lemmy.ca•Should the IOC have the USA and Canada redo the Gold Medal game in case it was a big fluke?English
4·4 days agoAgreed, and OP saying “a huge fluke” is demonstrably not true.
The game everyone remembers from the last Olympics with NHL players (2014) was also USA vs. Canada. 0-0 until overtime, when Crosby scored a goal after 7 minutes and 40 seconds (if I remember correctly, I looked it up the other day). Incredible moment.
So, the last time they met in a similarly competitive game they played nearly 68 minutes of hockey without either team scoring a goal.
It’s not a fluke, it’s how their games often work.

7·4 days agoI wish they’d stop using close-ups of these people’s faces as the article image.
They do it constantly for specific people.

Politics@beehaw.org•Trump threatens 10% global tariffs and rails against supreme court justicesEnglish
19·6 days agoThis is hysterical, he never realizes when he accidentally tells the truth.
“It’s my opinion that the court has been swayed by
foreign interests anda political movement that is far smaller than people would ever think. This is the definition of Trumpism and the movements that created it. Way smaller than people would ever think.
I’m ashamed that someone with this little self awareness became president this far into the 21st century.

Any time I hear about Watson or Crick I think “is that the one who is famously an asshole?”

1·8 days agoHave you tried tagspaces? It’s not primarily an editor (from what I can tell) but if you want to split file editing from grouping/tagging, it might be worth a shot.
I haven’t tried it but I will, because I really like ways to organize files that don’t require actually changing the files themselves!
Sometimes solving the problems separately (organizing and editing) can be better for specific purposes. on a computer with a keyboard, I like an editor that just edits.
I think it might just be for the sight gag of the snake’s skeleton, but I could be wrong.
It’s hard to think of something sillier than having a snake skeleton as a jumpscare from a closet, while also making it somewhat straightforward to draw.

Politics@beehaw.org•The Break Is Over. Companies Are Jacking Up Prices Again. - WSJEnglish
8·10 days agoAfter holding the line on prices for several months, companies—big and small—have begun a new round of increases, in some cases by high-single-digit percentage points.
Companies had raised prices last year after tariffs hoisted costs. Yet starting in the fall, many firms held off on increases and sometimes offered discounts to capture holiday shoppers.
Starting in the fall. It’s not even spring yet. So by “several” months you mean, what, three?
Prices on the most affordable imported goods are up by 2.3% since dipping at the end of November
Less than three months works as “several” for the Wall Street Journal. Yikes!

QueerDefenseFront@lemmy.blahaj.zone•NBC repeatedly misgendered trans Olympic skier Elis Lundholm - OutsportsEnglish
7·15 days agoIn their defense, they say it in the very next sentence.
NBC perhaps didn’t want to deal with controversy that could arise while they are televising this games and trying to make viewers hungry for Los Angeles in two years.
I genuinely didn’t get it, but the Disqus link helped.
Knut Døsen Lunde (the Disqus commenter) said:

(Ray Henderson and Mort Dixon)Bye Bye Blackbird is considered a popular “standard,” which makes a lot of sense for a The Far Side.

Pumas (says my quick search based on “one of one”)? Are they comfortable?
