  • Today I learned about non-military “civil defence” which this seems to be an example of. It was an interview on the new “elbows up” podcast. Many countries have much more robust programs (Scandinavia, Northern Europe). Like the entire population being trained in first aid, preparedness, and communications. Lots also have mandatory military service or at least more trained reserves.



  • It seems irrational. Only a fraction of the electorate actually voted PC. So instead of blaming the voters, it’s important to recognize the inability of the other parties to inspire voters. Not ideal to focus on leaders but that’s what works in our system. They need someone with charisma and (perceived) integrity. Manitoba pulled it off with Wab Kinew. Jack Layton did well. Trudeau early on.
