Wobei man fairerweise sagen muss, dass der Kommentar ja mit “Ich verstehe nicht…” anfängt und nicht mit “Ich hab die Lösung ihr Dullis”. Sprich: gerade die konkreten Gründe könnten hier hilfreich sein, denn erst mal erscheint es plausibel, dass die Automatisierung von Eisenbahnen einfacher ist als die (derzeit ja durchaus diskutierte) Automatisierung von PKWs.

And I still don’t really understand it, because the numbers are really very different. Oklahoma City (without the metropolitan area) is about as big as my as my hometown Bremen. We just had protests because our chancellor-to-be collaborated with the fascist party - we were about 1500 people, with about 24 hours notice. Big protests are up to 25000-50000 people. And as you said, other protests in the US were way bigger.

So I don’t think “time for preparation” is an important factor, especially as it is not really a surprise that Trump became president and is doing shitty things. Unless protests in the US are more complicated for some reason I don’t see yet?

From an outside perspective, I would guess it’s more about work culture - people being burnt out, no protections from getting fired. This might lead to less of a protest culture culture overall maybe. Which is also weird, because the US also has seen some very well known and successful protest movements.

Bonus: current Hollwood movies always seem to make it a point that the protagonist is very much trying to not get involved. I wonder what that says about the (current) culture in the US.

I had a coworker bragging about lying to his wife that he couldn’t take time off. This is fucked up on so many levels: why even have a kid? Why do you lie to your wife? Why are you telling people you barey know (I had been there for like two weeks) that you lie to your wife? WTF?

I feel like I’m missing something.

Maybe they’re insecure? They don’t know what to do with the new kid, and instead of figuring it out together with their partner they run back to the things they know and hide behind a fake martyrdom. I wonder how many of them will in a few months or years say that women are “naturals” when it comes to taking care of kids.

Mir kommt es auch sehr auffällig vor. Ich denke, ein gewisser Teil werden Nachahmungstaten sein. Je mehr Medienaufmerksamkeit ein Verbrechen bekommt, desto wahrscheinlicher sind Nachahmungstaten, und mehr Aufmerksamkeit als gerade geht kaum noch. Vor allem, wenn die “materielle” Hürde so gering ist (keine besonderen Kenntnisse, ein einfaches Messer reicht). Umgekehrt frage ich mich, ob die Hemmschwelle für gewisse Tätergruppen durch die rassistische Hetze gesenkt wird - wenn mich eh alle als Monster sehen, verhalte ich mich vielleicht auch eher wie eins. Zumindest dürfte es im aktuellen Klima leichter sein, frustrierte Leute zu finden, die sich radikalisieren lassen, weil ihnen vermittelt wird, dass sie eh nie dazu gehören werden.

Dazu passt auch die Nicht-Entschuldigung von Bundespräsident Steinmeier: er bedauert, dass “einige” der Familienangehörigen “den Eindruck hatten, dass sie den Staat erst zur Aufklärung drängen mussten” und dass “Vertrauen in unseren, ihren Staat verloren gegangen ist”.

Er bedauert nicht, dass es nie einen Prozess zu dem Anschlag gab (z.B. zu der verschlossenen Tür, dem besetzten Notruf, dem vorherigen Untätigbleiben der Behörden) sie zurecht den Eindruck habe. Er bedauert nicht, dass der Vater des Schützen nach dem Anschlag noch jahrelang die Familien terrorisieren darf. Er bedauert nicht mal, dass das Vertrauen zurecht verloren gegangen ist. Sondern er tut so, als sei das bloß ein Missverständnis aufseiten der Angehörigen.
