  • One of the things I really liked about it is that there was no explosive denouement (apart from PIke’s hug), and Una and Neera didn’t automagically become BFFs again at the end. 25 years is a longass time. Even excluding ideological positions, they’re strangers now. They probably won’t send each other birthday cards. They won’t send each other memes on Whatsapp. They won’t invite each other to weddings and shit.

And that’s okay. Or maybe I’m just projecting. Sometimes I see friends I haven’t spoken to in 10+ years on social media, and I think damn back then we couldn’t let a day pass without at least a text. But whatever the reason for falling out of touch, I would say I’d be glad if they’re thriving and hope things get better for them if they’re not. But no interest in rekindling the friendship or initiating contact. And that’s okay.

  • Tbh this isn’t even unique to Lemmy. Even on reddit, creating a new subreddit is free. If you don’t like the moderation or the general vibe of a subreddit, create a new one and build the community that you like. with the ethos that you see fit. That’s how there’s r/gaming, r/truegaming, r/games, r/pcgaming, r/gamernews, etc.

Reddit also only allowed comments in 2008, and Digg v4 was released in 2010. Therefore much of the reddit “canon” was developed after the Digg migration (e.g. today you tomorrow me, cumbox, forthewolfx, swamps of Dagobah, discoball, jolly ranchers, double dick dude, taco show, broken arms). Digg didn’t have custom communities. Reddit did. And now Lemmy has custom communities in infinite instances. If there’s going to be a Quit Reddit Day (maybe July 1st?) like Quit Digg Day, we’re in the forefront of shaping Lemmy.

  • This is what I did as well. Bought an S22 Ultra a few weeks after the S23 line launched. The usual cons I found that I actually didn’t mind. No expandable storage? 256GB is way too much for me; I can’t fill that up with apps and photos. I also use wireless earbuds so I’m not mourning the 3.5 jack. I’ve always been a fan of the Note line so it’s perfect for me.

I’m considering an Android smartwatch but I’m not doing research yet. I will also likely buy a previous generation device if ever.

I have never owned an Apple product, not even an iPod.
