help-circle

  • CLI requires remembering commands though, or developing patience with your up arrow key.

And if you want help, is it “/h” or “/?” or “-h” or “—help” or “—h” or just “help”

I can’t remember that I need to pee, let alone what commands do what, save for my up arrow.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in the terminal constantly, but I’ll pick a GUI over CLI every time if it’s an option.

  • I just got a new laptop for my work (which I also use for personal stuff, it’s a family business).

It came with Windows 11 but I’d got a bigger SSD which I’d installed before I’d even turned it on so Windows never even got a chance to boot.

I installed one of the Fedora atomic distros and it seems to be pretty good, though I’m trying to figure out how to tune battery life. I’ve setup TLP but haven’t noticed any improvement, though, it’s still much better than when I first tried Linux on a laptop.

I’d never used Fedora before, but the first distro I ever used was Ubuntu Dapper Drake and I’ve dipped my toes occasionally since then, but never fully committed until now

  • I do think New Zealand’s emphasis on primary industries is shortsighted, but it seems it’s always been that way. Any business in other sectors that gets big enough ends up moving headquarters overseas. And I think NZ is losing ground as certain markets move towards fewer Ag focused food products like meat alternatives. NZ has a lot of expertise in the food technology but it gets lost overseas because opportunities for bleeding edge food science are basically non existent in NZ unless you want to go into the Agricultural sector
