Ah yes, a family man who wanted a quiet life backed into leaving his country for a place his children might stand a modicum of a chance of having a normal life is the violent one. Not the fascists touting project 2025, turning the military on American citizens, sending red state national guard to blue states to round people up for camps, etc., but I suppose “legal” political violence is okay with you.
I’m fairly certain this has been the plan all along.
Yeah don’t stop there. I’m close.
Good. You orange fuck. You rapist. Racist fucking shit stain asshole. I hope the rest of your sleeps are troubled. May the tightness in your neck grip ever harder in your final days. I hope you’re too much of a coward to commit suicide and you have to live with your actions and see your narcissistic collapse bring the house of cards down.
You’ve forced me to move my family to Germany because of the fascist movement you’ve brought to the US. You’ve had me doomscrolling since at least 2015. You’ve had me changing my travel plans checking flights out of Toronto in order to avoid flying from the US after your inauguration date so that my latino family will have no in-person interaction with any government agent from your regime despite their being citizens. You’ve fucking disrupted an entire world order due to your complicity with Duginism because of your insatiable greed and character flaws leading to Russian kompromat on you, or you’re just a piece of shit because you need the Russian money to keep coming.
You should be in jail at best, and facing a similar fate to Mussolini at worst. So fuck off with your sleepless nights you fucking weak minded piss poor excuse for a person.
I didn’t notice until you said something. Just kind of read it as if it was spoken.
I was making a little joke there, but having never engaged with that kind of content, it’s just what I see when I go to all communities. If I scroll far enough down I start seeing gonewild stuff. Lemmy isn’t popular enough that the SFW stuff drowns out the NSFW stuff. I just can’t see myself using this site at work, or reddit for that matter unless I got there from looking up the answer to a technical problem. Always best to keep that stuff separate, but I just think people should understand that this site probably leans toward inherently unrelated to work at best, and unsafe at worst.
I don’t think it is personally but I think that depends on your thoughts about its character. To use an analogy, if you think of metal bands where swapping out members is quite common, I’d argue that the changes are much more noticeable than on something like a PC. The vocal or lyrical style changes, or the guitar solos, while still good lose something in their character.
Thinking of my own computers going from when I was 17 to the one I have now at 37, the technology is so vastly improved that the character would’ve been lost with most upgrades.
I think unless it’s a purely cosmetic change or maybe a storage upgrade, i.e. an improvement to existing components, it just isn’t the same.
That’s just me. This was a very interesting question.
This is Lemmy. There are regularly posts about the end of capitalism and furdicks that hit my All page. No way in hell I’d use this site at work.
And misses others you didn’t think about.
Digital Ocean basically lets you run something called a droplet in the cloud. It’s a general purpose server more or less. Put nginx on it, start the server process, configure the DNS rules, and congrats you have a site that says hello world.
A droplet is similar to an EC2 on Amazon Web Services. I found DOCN to be cheaper than AWS when I hosted my site there. I was going to also suggest proton and DOCN might work for your use case. You get the redundancy and uptime without needing to use your own hardware, electricity, or bandwidth.
Regex should generally be avoided wherever possible.
I looked at kagi but I don’t want to pay for it because I’m a cheap bastard.
I am moving to Germany next year. Even though I was born there and my mother taught me some, and I learned it in high school, and I also studied in college in the USA, I cannot speak it worth shit. I’m hoping I pick up some more when I move, but if not maybe my kids can teach me.
I find that I’m just trying to pick up things through osmosis. I watch German youtubers and try to watch a German movie or two every now and then. And then sometimes when I’m talking I try to directly translate what I’m saying in my head, and assuming I know the words, I usually fuck up the order, article, or tense.
I say all that to say that my current workflow is already overwhelming and I’m on a bit of a time crunch. I do really need to surround myself with native speakers and listen to them more. I will reach out. Thanks!
I game on both the deck and a desktop with pop!_os. I can say gaming on my desktop is just as good if not better than the deck for because it can leverage my desktop hardware and it’s way easier to go under the hood with proper peripherals. Linux has come a long way with gaming. Most of the shit that doesn’t run on linux are games that cost too much for too little content or they’re just gonna be battle pass/cosmetic farms that cater to whales and aren’t actually fun in any sense of the word.
If you’re gonna be a top 0.0001% competitive gamer, you’ll probably wanna stick to windows. If you don’t play FPSes competively, a linux based gaming PC is probably fine. Me? I’m a middle aged dude with kids who racks up about 20 hours a week somehow, and linux more than suits my needs.
I’ve had more success with Lutris and Wine in getting certain abandonware games (Black and White for example) to run than I ever did on Windows.
I switched to PopOS from Windows 11 in three hours. I had been backing everything up for weeks though. Generally everything I did on Windows works out of the box on PopOS.
Aside from my bluetooth speaker not connecting automatically and needing to run a Windows VM for Corsair peripheral LEDs, I’ve not had to do a ton of customization.
It’s been well worth it. Really enjoying it so far and highly recommend.
I use perplexity.ai more than google now. I still don’t love it and it’s more of a testament to how far google has fallen than the usefulness of AI, but I do find myself using it to get a start on basic searches. It is, dare I say, good at calorie counting and language learning things. Helps calculate calorie to gram ratios and the math is usually correct. It also helps me with German, since it’s good at finding patterns and how German people typically say what I am trying to say, instead of just running it through a translator which may or not have the correct context.
I do miss the days where I could ask AI to talk like Obama while he’s taking a shit during an earthquake. ChatGPT would let you go off the rails when it first came out. That was a lot of fun and I laughed pretty hard at the stupid scenarios I could come up with. I’m probably the reason the guardrails got added.
archive.is or archive.ph is what I use for getting past paywalls. If it’s a hard membership paywall there won’t be much you can do about it. If it’s just a splash screen, they work by removing the annoying stuff that prevents you from going further since they have to package the content for SEO. The archive sites basically grab that content as if they were going to index it for a search engine, but then they present it in human readable format instead.
It is incredible isn’t it? The Germans have seen first hand that some speech should not be free and they understand that the intolerant cannot be tolerated. Which is why they have the Brandmauer and there are talks to ban AfD. Trump should have never been allowed to run this time around, and if AfD is found to be undemocratic, they will be banned as well. 15% of the country may not like it, but that’s tough shit.
Their system is actually a modern parliamentary government where it’s not winner take all. Proportional representation with ranked choice voting is what the USA needs to move to. We need to get off the two party system, but the parties who benefit are the ones who make the change. Also our third parties are absolute dogshit. Green and Libertarian. So culturally the USA needs to field some better policies and candidates. The problem is the right wing is so powerful that the left cannot meaningfully put together a real competitive coalition. Even the democrats would be center right in most other developed countries. So yeah, fascism is coming to the USA, whether it comes in 2024, 2028, or 2032, it’s coming and hopefully it doesn’t take the rest of the world out with it. The EU needs to be prepared to lose the USA as a primary trading partner and as the head of NATO. This Russia problem we have doesn’t seem to be going away.
I just don’t want my kids getting drafted into some dumb ass fascist conflict. My hope would be that blue states resist when red state national guard is knocking on people’s doors and performing their dragnet deportation operation on anyone too dark a shade of brown. I just don’t see any of this ending well.
I would love to be wrong about all of this by the way. But I grew up in the south, and I’ve seen first hand how the majority feels and thinks about cities, immigrants, LGBTQIA+, marginalized groups, POC, etc.
Got called a nazi kraut my whole school career just for expressing pride in Lebkuchen or Christmas traditions or knowing a little bit of German despite being culturally American and speaking English as my native tongue. The USA has some serious cultural issues to reconcile, and I’m not sure a milquetoast centrist former prosecutor has the right formula to do it.
That’s assuming she wins. She loses, I guess I’m flying out of Canada in January prior to inauguration day.
