Charlie Brown stands waving a paper. He shouts,“Extra! Extra!!”

Patty runs along exclaiming,“An extra!!” “I wonder what happened?”

She stops next to Charlie Brown and asks,“What is it, Charlie Brown? An earthquake? A flood?”

She grimaces and stands with her hands akimbo as he replies,“Oh, no I just happened to have an extra paper left over!”

Looks like slightly earlier, radio killed it:

With the rise of radio, extras became largely obsolete in the early 1930s in areas with good radio coverage, replaced by breaking news bulletins.  However, extras have occasionally appeared into the 21st century. For example, several North American newspapers published an extra on the afternoon of September 11, 2001, to report the terrorist attacks, even if they had not issued extras for years prior.

Oh, cool! So even by the time this comic was printed it was something of a throwback. Thanks for the response, that was neat.
