In AZ new supreme court justices are appointed by the governor from a non-partisan list of nominees. Justices get a two year term, then are subject to a retention vote. If they get past that vote they are subject to retention votes every six years.

There are seven Supreme Court justices in AZ, all Republican appointees. Two are up for retention votes this year. Two more are up for retention votes before Katie Hobbs’ first term as Governor ends. The remaining three would be up for retention votes during the next governer’s term.

Here’s hoping the voters remember what this court did and vote them out. Hopefully Hobbs gets to flip the court in her first term, then gets to replace the ramainder in a second term.
