Senators confirmed Rubio by a vote of 99-0 on Monday evening.

With the Ohio seat of Vance vacant, that’s unanimous with no abstentions. In case you thought Democrats, Angus King, or even BERNIE were going to stand in the way of the fascist machine 🤬

Gotta respect those senate norms. Could you imagine what chaos would be unleashed if the dems even pretended to care more about trans peoples’ safety than making sure the confirmation votes are as unanimous as possible? Heaven forbid the opposition party oppose anything!

I’ve been paying $8-9 for fancy organic farmer’s market eggs for years. It’s wild to me that the basic Kroger brand egg now cost that much but my fancy eggs haven’t gone up in price.

8-9$? Holy shit, that is expensive. Here in Germany a 10 pack organic eggs is somewhere around 3€.

Costco was about the same per dozen (business costco had 15 doz for ~$137) and they’re supposed to be cheaper because of membership fees and buying in bulk. But, hey, at least those damned trans folk are miserable! That’s all any of us ever really wanted, right?

Oh look, another brick wall on which to bang my head until I do enough brain damage to understand the reichright.

Yes but that’s Ralph’s. I’ve continued getting $4 eggs from Sprouts which is just their going rate. (Although their $9 pasture eggs are lit).

Does this actually sell? I personally buy it from Costco for $3.95 and I’ve lowered my eggs consumerism consumption(fuck Gboard for wanting to speak for me) from 5 - 7 eggs in the morning to only 3 now. And if this shit keeps going up, I’m stopping it completely.

That’s going to be really confusing when a fully passing trans person goes up to customs or TSA and it’s clearly wrong. Although then again my ex had her old picture still and the looks she got were pretty funny (that was decades ago, though, when this wasn’t being used as a scapegoat).

This is going to be a problem for trans people exiting the country too. When I got to Britain a few days ago, my passport was scanned by a machine and matched with video of my face inside the booth with the machine. I have a feeling that the machines will have issues if the passport photo shows them presenting as a different gender.

Glad you made it, squid! I can tell you there’s nothing to fear with those eGates, as they check the photo, not your gender.

Regardless, it seems like you got out at the right time.

I get that they check the photo, I’m saying that if they’re not going to allow you to express your real gender in a passport, they’re almost certainly not going to allow you to express it in your passport photo.

The scanners check around ~100 data points like

            Distance between the eyes

            Width of the nose

            Depth of the eye sockets

            Shape of the cheekbones

            Length of the jaw line

presumably with a bunch of failsafes and a tolerance threshold for acceptability. Something like facial hair, makeup, glasses, haircut won’t even blip it.

How will this actually be enforced though? Some states allow changes to birth certificates. I doubt they are going to start doing genital exams or asking people for doctors forms. Seems the only viable option would be to add it to the affirmation you do when getting a passport, “Do you swear you were born with a penis?” Which means someone who might lie could have punishment.

GOP doing what they do best, attacking the marginalized because they are scared and can’t fathom that their box doesn’t fit everyone.

The confusion is part of the strategy. It’s much easier to attack a disorganized enemy, in this case, the American people.

Do you genuinely think the government doesn’t have any trace of whether or not you have changed your gender marker?

Bureaucracy is kind of their whole thing.

Maybe it’s just because I’m in a red state, but I know for a fact my state keeps track of that. I’m probably going to a camp very quickly.

Depends on how the state does it. California amends birth certificate in most cases by leaving the previous version of the document as an addendum to the current… except in cases of gender change. If any person or agency queries the document they see a single page that reflect the updated gender, no history.

(They also do this if your name has a slur in it that you want removed, which is nice)

There was that family in NJ that literally named their kid “Adolph Hitler”, so I gotta figure there may be some parents that have given their kids even worse names that aren’t any sort of Scunthorpe problem.

I changed my marker during Biden. My state made it very easy. It’s a liberal bastion in the NE, and I have an X for NB.

But, yeah, I don’t feel exactly safe. If they made me change my marker, I wouldn’t have much concern psychologically (I’m more gender abolitionist), but I feel like they wouldn’t do much asking and would just rather “remove me” from society or whatever.

It’s not great, but I know some of my trans homies have it much worse. Going through years of HRT, therapy, etc., transitioning, and then finally getting to a marker and identity that aligns with you…only for this group to push you to change it back (or again, potentially worse outcomes).

It may be a time of setbacks and shitty outcomes, but Pandora’s box is largely open. While the trans population is small, a lot of people know a trans person now. Hell, Elon is bitterly related to one.

Even if they killed all LGBTQ people, you can’t eliminate this population like genocide: it’s an idea or identity.(“And ideas are bulletproof” jk) You can’t kill these feelings out of existence forever. Queer people will always exist.
