Cuba and Palestine seem to be the bare minimum for a NATO leftist. Sometimes on a rare occasion they’ll even throw in Bolivia too. They’ll usually be sure to tell you that Cuba could be more Democratic and that Hamas is bad.

I definitely know at least two that I’ve met who are like “Cuba is bad because its a state and all states are bad” but STILL have the correct opinion on Palestine. Re: Hamas I can think of one who delusionally believes the Free Syrian Army is a “organic people’s movement” so it would be REALLY weird for her to thereafter go “I condemn Hamas” lmao.

Okay I have to ask, why does everyone here act like most anarchists are supper supportive of AES states? The tiny community of anarchists active here are but they’re a pretty uniquely chill with MLs bunch. Even the coolest anarchists I’ve known irl still generally had nothing nice to say about the USSR, China and the DPRK, Cuba sometimes gets a pass but that’s about it.

      • I consider myself neutral on “AES” states, which seems like support in comparison to the frothing racist hatred and compulsive lying that passes for political consciousness in the west. it’s that sort of thing that I think no serious anarchist has any business engaging in, but I’ll admit it’s way more common than it ought to be. I follow plenty of anti-imperialist anarchists on Tumblr tho.

They’re supportive of many AES states but its not because they are AES. Simplest way to explain it is they habitually support underdogs. The USSR was and China is, too big and scary. But Vietnam, Palestine, Rojava, Cuba, Chile, Bolivia, Yemen, Chiapas, maybe - if you’re lucky - Venezuela, full send support.

DPRK is the standout exception for them. Usually they just need a history lesson.
