        Tbf, our two party system is truly awful. We need to fight for a modern multiparty democracy with proportional representation

          I don’t know what was said above, why was it removed? Was it extreme or are we now censoring divergent comments on DB0?

          I feel like that is a bit antithetical to the politics of this page and my own.

          Just checking. I’ve noticed the walls of the fediverse closing a bit and I don’t like it

            Comments have been removed from this post for a few reasons, including a few Rule 3s. FYI when folks come into a leftist space and start criticizing our users for refusing to vote for a party that supports genocide, that’s electoralism, which is a Rule 3 violation in this community.

            Okay, that’s fair. No one should be forced to vote for a genocide ever. And any system that tries to force people to vote for genocide to defeat fascism is not worth saving… But even on the issue of genocide, Democrats were the lesser evil. Democrats protested genocide while Republicans proudly cheer for it.

              They didn’t do shit to protest it other than say they felt bad about still having to send Israel bombs while giving Ukraine a small handful of bullets and some flowers. Actions speak louder than words. If they actually cared, they’d give Israel nothing but the middle finger and give Ukraine and Palestine everything they want.

      If we were more civically engaged as a population it would not have gotten this bad.

      Yes and no. Yes, if everyone fought tirelessly for years to force our politicians to actually represent us then our system could be much better. But, our system is so deeply and unfathomably undemocratic / corrupt that it is cruel and unfair to put all the blame on the people. Humans are finite creatures so pouring more of our life into politics takes it from other aspects of our life. If everyone is over worked and exhausted then they often don’t have time for politics.

        You’re not wrong, the ‘fight like hell’ approach would have worked if we applied it in the 1900’s-1930’s. In America, at least. Back before the cult of wealth was properly established and the average Joe still gave a shit about the poor and the needy.

        Today, you can really only expect coordinated civic participation to be able to fix small local problems. Which is still absolutely necessary if we’re going to fix larger issues, because our neighbors will believe in the thing they see as putting food on their table and a roof over their head.

        Even just working at the individual-to-individual level is still worthwhile. Bringing one person into the fold, protecting one person from harm at the hands of our economy, or at this point even just dragging one person out of fascism, makes an admirable comrade.

        Things really got fucked when the same folks who brought us the great depression signed the Permanent Apportionment Act that permanently capped the number of representatives at 435. Representation has shifted from 1 representative per 280k people to 1 per 760k.

    It’s a meme, not a political dissertation devoid of flaws. As such I find it hilarious. I’d still vote for the lesser evil while trying to help in other ways between elections.

    That’s not quite true. While the trolley is red, it’s also actively accelerating; rapidly increasing the harm being done.

    Changing the color to blue means that it’s only passively accelerating.

        Participation in the leaderless, lateral organization necessary for an anarchist society requires an ability to understand the praxis of both yourself and of others. You don’t necessarily need to accept and adopt it, and consistently challenging each other’s goals and methodologies is going to become the bedrock of the movement.

        That being said, stone-wall history to a comrade working towards similar goals is how authoritarianism creeps in. Ultimately, you’re among friends, here. Talk on the actual points, we’ll participate in good faith.
