Gen V season 1 worked well since it felt like it fit into what felt like a The Boys season 4 series finale.
When The Boys didn’t have their finale in season 4, jumping back to Gen V felt weird. Gen V season 1 was all about the virus, but season 2 hasn’t mentioned it at all. The virus storyline is largely part of The Boys now, but it was weird to just drop it from Gen V.
I’m enjoying Gen V season 2, but in some ways it feels like it’s retreading season 1 in order to setup the new way to defeat Homelander.
Spoilers for Gen V season 2, episode 7
Now we have Godolkin revived. I don’t see him being defeated in one episode. So is he going to be part of The Boys season 5?
I like both existing in the same universe, but they need to be able to tell their own stories, or work together much more closely to ensure they don’t step on each others toes.
So a Gen V set after The Boys season 5, which is the finale, where it is free to tell whatever story they want. That would be good.
Yeah, there was one throw away line by Cipher about the last person in charge “creating a virus to wipe us all out” and then they just moved on from it. The tone of the statement gave more of a “it’s done, we’re moving on” feeling.
Godolkin finds out about the virus and adjusts it to kill off large number of weaker supes and possibly humans in a single hit; he can hardly force each supe individually to commit suicide, he would be there for another ten seasons. As he is a gifted scientist it would not be beyond his characters boundaries for him to be able to rework the virus significantly. This would setup a brand new antagonist to keep the virus in play, Homelander is hardly smart enough to do it himself.
