It is in good shape. The last patch was a step in the right direction. If you have game pass try it out. If you are on fence, wait. I think in the next 6 months it is going to be brilliant 😀
It’s playable and pretty fun, it definitely feels like it chugs more than it should. Though the recent patch has improved that somewhat.
My 3080 running at 3440x1440 seems to sit around 50-60fps most of the time
Agreed, it lags sometimes but it’s a good game
I’m still on a 1050Ti haha
I’m running it on my 1070, and by tweaking some settings I have been able to squeeze out a playable 40-ish fps.
The game is quite unoptimized, but you don’t need a 3080 in order to get playable framerates.
A 1050ti might be on the low side, but I don’t think it would have to be entirely unplayable.(My bigger issue with the game in its current state is the lack of official mod support. I’m looking forward to that being added down the line)
Ehhh that card is over 7 years old now. I’d say thats pretty amazing performance for a GPU that old.
Back in my day if you wanted to play a game that new on a card that old you were playing windowed 640x480 at 20fps.
It’s pretty alright. As a base game it’s quite good. I think releasing without mod support was a huge mistake. Wait until it has mod support and the map builder. It’s still waaaay more full featured than CS1 was, basically having the industries and mass transit DLCs bundled in.
I think what‘s there is actually as good or better’s than what CS1 had. That being said, CS2 still lacks much if the variety of what CS1 has and has a long way to go. I would say it‘s in a good early access state and should not have been „released yet.
The bones of a good game are there, but they’re still adding the meat. They made some decisions I wouldn’t have, like the rocking cars, but nothing game breaking yet. Sometimes a road will read 180° but not be 100% aligned causing the grid to become wonky. The modular service buildings are nice. What the game really needs is some better overlays so I can better understand how to solve these “rent is too high” and “not enough well-educated workers” errors that I am consistently getting. I shouldn’t have to go to YouTube to find answers that might kind-of work. My understanding of these issues is they are common and once more of my cims cycle through school, they should improve, but its been forever and it feels a little broken.
I’m running on an older AMD machine with dual 1080s as my primary, and an i7 with a 2030 as my secondary. They both handle it okay. Oddly the 1080s seemed a little smoother, but my city was still a bit smaller back then.
I have high hopes for the game and as long as they keep working on it, it will undoubtedly turn into something great.
I definitely miss some of the add-on functionality from CS1 like custom parks, bikes are absent, etc. The raw resource industries are interesting to place and shape and so far I like them.
The drivers are the biggest idiots ever. Literally worse than IRL drivers. Every freeway exit is a clog with assholes cutting from the far inside lane across 2-4 lanes of traffic and shoving their way in only feet before an exit. >:-( and without TMPE I can’t stop the lane switching. Also, the stop signs seem to work better than the lights.
The truest test will be how the game is handled and modded by the community. Modders largly fixed CS1 and will hopefully do the same for CS2.
It’s still fairly rough, although they have pushed several patches that helped significantly improve the absolute trash the game was on launch day.
Still no modding support, which was originally supposed to be a day-one feature. DLC release also got delayed. Maybe it’ll be a good game by mid to late 2024.
I’ve got about 100 hours in and I really enjoy it. Performance isn’t great and it’s gotten a bit crashy now that my city is really big, but the game itself is a lot of fun.
I like the tire wear on the streets. I miss the pedestrian teeth. 😁
If you have a good specced PC and you either loved the first game or want the best experience without digging through mods, then it’s a great game and I’d recommend it. I have 400 hours in the first game so I found the 2nd game fun, although I don’t see myself crossing 100 hours if mods don’t get introduced.
Otherwise, the first game is still really good, less demanding on your computer, and much more customizable with mods.
It’s not in good shape yet despite what others are saying. It should have been released into early access and it’s still got a long way to go to even be classified as a proper simulation game.
It’s playable but so are a lot of other games that are better than it to spend your time with right now. Personally, I’m pretty disappointed in it and I’m hoping it’ll have a NMS-style turn around.
