    Relevant context not included in the title:

    Both a reinvestment zone designation and a 100% property tax abatement cleared the Grimes County Commissioners Court by a 4-1 margin, covering a project SpaceX has put a $55 billion price tag on. Rather than paying property taxes, SpaceX agreed to hand Grimes County a $10 million lump sum at the outset, followed by annual payments of $20 million stretched across a 35-year term. Grimes County Commissioner David Tullos cast the lone dissenting vote.

    So a total of $710 million over the course of the 35 year period, structured for consistent payments and no variability.

    The $55B in the article is obviously the cost to build and start the facility, not just the property value once built.

    If I’m doing my math correctly (probably not) to get a $20M annual tax payment, with a 1.42% property tax rate for Grimes County (what I found with a quick search)… The property would be valued at about $1.4 Billion. Which seems insane for just a property valuation.
