After scuttling a months-long search for a new host, the Paramount Global network said it had enlisted Jon Stewart, who presided over the late-night mainstay’s most popular era, to serve as its host on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle and to run the program. He is expected to oversee the program through 2025. Various “Daily Show” correspondents will host the program Tuesday through Thursday nights, and Jen Flanz, the current executive producer, will continue her duties on the show.
Glad to see Jon back.
I think Jon got lost at Apple because his reach was so limited. I loved the clips I saw uploaded to YouTube and enjoyed the podcast from the show, but Apple TV just isn’t worth tuning into.
Minhaj and Wolf I think both struggled for similar reasons at Netflix.
I think John Oliver “struggled” similarly with his show on HBO, but he was clearly given the option to upload his main story to YouTube. Now I can get most from YouTube, but much more from HBO. Also HBO historically has had an amazing catalog (they seem to be struggling at the moment).
However The Daily Show, along with Colbert and Seth Meyers are available on YouTube, sometimes before the show actually airs.
I don’t want to say YouTube is the only solution here, but you need that wide audience.
I don’t know how much it costs where you are, but as an annual fee Apple TV has been great value. Some of the best shows I’ve watched in recent times. Not a fan of them effectively letting John go cause of Chinese concerns though, so may not renew.
I’ve watched a few of the Apple TV shows and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve watched but if I’m subscribed to a service I’m looking for about one new show per month and they are just not keeping pace with that.
I would subscribe and ditch more frequently but Apple TV also doesn’t support Chromecast, which every other service does and is 99% of the way I watch these shows.
That is a point, as we’re reasonably new to the service we had/have a backlog to get through, so it feels like a lot of content… but if I’d been a long term subscriber it quite probably doesn’t add up. We’re just finishing Slow Horses and it should tie in nicely for the start of Masters of Air if we squeeze a couple episodes in tonight and tomorrow.
Have you seen severance? That’s honestly worth the one month subscription fee if you don’t/can’t [ahem]…”find” it elsewhere.
