If this were a bit cheaper, I might try it. Pricing is geared towards small businesses and independent contractors.

It’s odd, the product is new and exciting but the pricing and admin side is old fashioned (you have to pay by card, rather than a privacy protecting service, you can’t even do a monthly subscription and it’s in dollars only) and in my opinion it’s over priced for what it offers. Also, it doesn’t seem to work with your existing email address so you also have all the hassle of changing things over to a hey email address.

The have “HEY for Domains -Email for companies or individuals who want to use their own custom domain name” pricing option.

37 Signals is very San Francisco centric in their perspectives (even though they see themselves as contrarian to the San Francisco VC culture). They might not even realize that $99 per year or $12 per month is a lot of money to most individuals not in the tech industry. It’s a lot to many who are. Especially for an email and calendar service which are services that come free along with contact management with every smartphone. They certainly don’t care.

They are geared towards small businesses and independent contractors with a bit of appeal to the well paid corporate tech crowd.
