One of those bags to keep your phone dry?
Most phones made now it seems are rated for being able to go underwater. I wouldn’t go swimming with mine or anything, but it often gets wet and it’s fine. The touchscreen doesn’t really work when wet, because it thinks it’s being touched all over. That’s the only part that needs to stay dry to operate in the shower.
It’s weird, I read and respond to texts and listen to audiobooks on my phones speaker in the shower all the time. There’s a ledge outside of the water spray so it’s easy to navigate. I mean texts can usually wait but the ability to continue my audiobook from my headphones to my phone speakers for showering is key.
It’s 2 am right now and I was sleeping terrible. So I took my phone to the shower, not really to get clean, but just for comfort.
I have an old shitty shower/hot water heater it takes like five minutes for it to even get lukewarm so I usually dick around for five minutes while the water heats up
I think it is more than that, the shower is a proper refuge where external stimuli is severely limited. Sounds are limited by the running water, temperature is controlled by the water, visuals are limited, and no one is generally barging in.
When I was studying math at University I had a remarkable number of eureka moments in the shower where suddenly infinity made sense. Smart phones didn’t really exist then but showers still held power as a great place to think
This dude literally understood infinity in the shower…
After finishing up calculus and differential equations taking real analysis was a trip! Basically opening up the box that is calculus and seeing why taking the derivative of a function means dropping the exponent and so much more. It frequently dealt with infinity and we went from writing long equations to solving word problems involving infinite doors. It was great
Limits are cool 😁 They open the door to all the 20th century maths and physics. I still don’t understand how infinity is treated to get the result that the sum of all natural numbers is -1/12 though. That must use some different definitions, but I’m not sure what.
Psilocybin and a sensory deprivation tank is all you need to eureka yourself up all the way until infinity is the only think that makes sense at all.
Not financial advise.
my experience studying math was the same, so many concepts clicked when i was in the shower. a bit later on, a lot of the eureka moments in research projects happened in the shower too. i’ve wondered how common it is in other fields to be doing a considerable chunk of the research in the shower.
Thats less of a eureka and more of an archimedes moment.
The shower is where I secretly watch porn in a house of 6 people. Let the water running and start beat my meat with hot water running at my beck.
We need a NoFap community on lemmy
Nofap is like a cult and the folks from that sub spread a lot of really stupid misinformation. Masturbation is healthy, safe, and a basic human need… but like everything it should be done in moderation. It reduces the change of prostate cancer, and keeps the pipes clean.
Be the change you want to see in the (lemmy.)world
No love for MoFap?
Jokes on you I read r/showerthoughts in the shower
I bring mine in shower to play music.

I don’t understand the people who say that they use their phones in the shower. I can’t even change songs on my phone if it gets water on it because the touch screen gets buggy. Also, what do you even do on your phone in the shower? It’s not a hands-off activity.
I usually listen to a podcast in the shower - bought a cheap shower phone holder on Amazon. Sometimes I browse ~
reddit~ Lemmy in the shower - phone is just held in front of me a bit to keep it out of the water, works fine.Ah, another person of culture. Podcast showers are great!
The hell
I prop mine up on one of my little shelves outside the stream of water and put videos on. One of the streaming apps has an ability to block touch input, which is great to avoid splashes of water setting off the screen. I have a lot of hair that likes to rats nest when wet and I get easily bored & don’t enjoy being in my own mind, so putting on a show helps.
Which app is that? I also have long hair that is annoying to wash. Videos might actually be helpful.

I hold my phone in one hand, out of the stream of water, and browse
RedditLemmy, Twitter, YouTube, whatever I feel like browsing. During this time, I’m not cleaning myself, I’m just standing, enjoying the hot water, and reading whatever I’m reading. With that said, I’ve stopped doing this because it’s a huge waste of water and money.
Bruh just take a bath
I’m good, baths suck.
why not take a bath? you won’t waste as much water as a fully running shower.
I find a bath less refreshing and also more likely to make me sweat and feel uncomfortably warm. I can take a pretty hot shower and still not have those problems.
I basically solved it by no longer taking my phone into the shower.
I put on a YouTube video and listen like a podcast. Mostly because it acts like a timer because I’ll spend way too long in there
I sometimes listen to music or watch videos in the shower. I double-bag it in clear plastic bags, and then put it in a safe location. When I change songs or videos, I can interact with the screen like normal. Maybe it’s just my phone or the plastic bags I use–maybe both?
I use something like below, minus the ziplock:
I suppose there are actual products meant for making phones more waterproof in these situations, but I didn’t bother looking for those.
Watching videos isn’t that weird. I tend to try to rush showers and wouldn’t be able to watch my phone while doing 90% of my washing, but it’s not that crazy. I’ve always used a Bluetooth speaker for listening to music in the shower. It’s much easier and doesn’t require me touching my phone.
In the shower rn shopping for boxers
They’re very good and loyal companions - oh you meant underwear
Man the future is crazy. Is it even ethical to resurrect a bioprinted copy of Mohammed Ali just for a chance to have sex with him in the shower?
Imagine being a bioprinted boxer from the 20th century, knowing without knowing how you know, that you’re in the distant future and that the moment you step out of the shower you’ll be painlessly destroyed, but not really caring because you have an irresistible urge for the person ogling you and you seem strangely obsessed with soaping them up.
Nope, people use phone in the shower all the time. It’s simply a place of quiet privacy
I have deep conversations with Google Assistant in the shower all the time.
What does Google assistant do, am I missing out?
Assists google in grabbing that sweet user data.
You know those crazy ideas you get in the shower? You can shout at Google to take a note before you forget them or ask Google questions to figure out whether your idea will work out.
Google assistant is like Siri, Alexa, Bixby or Cortana. A AI assistant, Google includes it in almost every smartphone in some way, that they have control of.
Yeah ok, but how to get real relevant conversations with them?
I’m usually stuck to ‘play this’ or ‘how do I get there’ stuff
You are right, chat GPT is more conversational than Google assistant, the comment was probably a joke.
Until I get my waterproof VR headset
You better hope for a waterproof VR brain interface because otherwise you’ll never get your hair washed.
i have used all of mine in the shower for the last 10 years or longer. i keep a dry towel where i can reach it to dry my hands if i want to switch hands, or the screen if it gets splashed.
i even bring my ebook reader in here from time to time.
just dont hold them in the water and they are fine.
Have you had a shower thought in that time?
sadly not
Wow, that’s really interesting.
This reminds me, I want to make a diy speaker so I can listen to some music while showering.
I don’t use the phone in the bathroom. I just let my third eye open and find new ideas, fixes to my problems for the day. I can’t imagine being on that state of mind longer tho, because the mind tend to wonder in dark places that forcefully resurface painful memories that lingers all day. Kinda a bummer.
