Who doesn’t know what a f chicane is 😁 ?!(they’re prevalent in europe and if you ever watched only 10 minutes of F1 you’d know what it is so maybe an american blind spot?).

I’ve never been to Europe and I’ve never had any interest in watching F1. I don’t think that’s just an American thing tbh.

I’ve lived in Europe my whole life, my grandma was a devoted fan of F1 an still, I think it’s the first time I heard that word. Chicanery, yes, but not chicane. XKCD 10 000 moment, I guess

I’d wager the vast majority of the world has never watched 10 minutes of F1 lol

I’d also guess that the US has a higher percentage of F1 fans than most countries because cars

That’s a terrible attempt at traffic calming for people who want to say:

“We’ve tried traffic calming and it doesn’t work!”

There’s still no bicycle lanes, and the on street parking is standing in for proper traffic containment.

I’m all for bike lanes in cities but this is most likely a suburb where people can freely move between street and sidewalk. Bike lanes here would be excessive given the lack of traffic, a chicane is a great way to slow drivers down

Also this photo was also taken in a way to exaggerate the wobbliness. It’s not so ridiculous from above or the driver’s seat

Guess I’ll just hit that black pickup that is in the squiggly lane then.

Yes, I know what it is intended to do. This is a really lazy and shitty implementation like early roundabouts added to side streets without redoing the corner curbs to make space for cars going around the circle.

You’re clearly never seen a vehicle hit a speeed bump at speed, it causes lose of control. So if you’re going straight, you’re actually safer this way. But people following the law still slow down.

I was commenting about how it was implemented on a straight street with no obvious considerations for the lanes
going into the spaces where cars are parked. Just about how they did it on this specific street, and not about comparative safety.

If you still think I don’t understand that chicanes are good but that I am criticizing this specific one then your reading comprehension sucks.

Say what? Speed bumps work better at speed because your suspension sorta floats over them. Hit one at 35MPH vs. 15MPH, you’ll see what I mean. Same as driving the rutted dirt road to our camp. 5-10MPH has you bouncing all over the place. 30MPH is about the right zone.

No idea what you’re saying about loss of control. Maybe our speed bumps are entirely different?

How does suspension float over a BUMP? There’s other methods that are road divots, but bumps protrude up from the road….

That’s the point, a speeding vehicle hitting speed bumps can loose control, so a drunk driver is less of a concern, but law abiding people are still slowed down appropriately.

Don’t mock shit just because you can’t comprehend it lmfao.

The race car driver in me is just going to go straight down that road. It’s the most optimal driving line.

How could this be more safe?! Now you have to put extra concentration on the road instead of scanning ahead for animals, bikes, kids and cars.

This is the kinda shit lawful people dream up thinking everyone obeys every rule. No. I’m driving straight through that shit.

Also, they chopped parking down and you know someone’s going to ignore the white line and end up parked in the road. See the black truck?

Reminds me of the engineering on our local mall. I’m the last to bitch about planting trees, but you can’t see the fucking store signs from the back of the parking lot. You either have to creep along blocking flow, or go to the front where we want fewer cars. The parking lot is a confusing mess to slow people down. What really happens is a shitload of near misses. Meanwhile, at Walmart next door, regular lot, no issues.
