I’ve been saying for years it should be Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money
That was the only acceptable title. How did they screw that up? Makes me have even less hope for the movie.
I’m okay with this, since Mel Brooks already found the money! Turns out, it was in his basement all along!
“The Quest for more Money” happened offscreen and the heros should complain that such an important event was only communicated through some obscure Event in a totally unrelated medium after being flabbergasted that Money for a Mission was somehow found.
“Wait, what about the money? Aren’t we supposed to be on a search for money?”
“They found the money. Didn’t you watch the title announcement video?”
“The what?”
“Was that on Fortnite?”
“Fortnite? What kind of a stupid idea is that? It was on YouTube!”
“Somehow, the money returned.”

Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II
This is one of the few sequels im very okay with having.
As Mel states in the video, he found the money.
That would be wasting their title to repeat a joke they already told 40 years ago. Instead they went with something timely, poking fun at requels that don’t differentiate themselves from the original.

Lol, more like they went with something boring and completely unimaginative. The quest for more money is a fun throwback for a movie that only exists because it’s a throwback.
Like seriously. They aren’t making some new IP here. It’s a shameless money grab and it would be 1000x funnier if they owned it, it isn’t high art my dude
if they repeat a joke i hope its Yoghurt presenting a flamethrower as “the thing you used to love as a kid”
Best joke in the original was the virgin alarm. I could see them pulling off a callback to that.
While that was hilarious, I must humbly - yet strongly - disagree.

But my favorite joke - not the best, but my favorite - because I didn’t catch it the first hundred times I saw - is also in this clip at 2m20s where Dark Helmet taps Colonel Sandurz on the chest - who looks at the hand, the camera, realizes it’s coming in, and backs out of the shot. That’s just… oh man, that is like the pinnacle of the detailed thought that went into a very very silly movie.
So many movies just throw actors out there and get them to improv, and that can be great. But the sheer density of hilarity in Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstien and others… it’s just a beautiful thing. When it feels like 75% of the movie is quotable. lol
So I don’t disagree that the Virgin Alarm was great, but I think the above clip is ten times better. But you’re allowed to reverse that rating for you, of course. Long as you and I love the movie, I’m satisfied. :)
You got me… the camera zoom reaction is a better joke. But maybe not as good a candidate for a callback!
To be brutally honest though, I didn’t so much want to disagree as really to just post that clip and talk about it. LOL

It is a joke from the first movie that the sequel would be named The Quest for More Money. This minute long video explains why they used The New One instead.
And it would’ve been even funnier because this movie is a blatant money grab

I feel that we definitely need a parody of all those nostalgia reboots.
Yeah that’s why I think this title is pretty good actually. “it’s like the old one, but it’s newer” definitely seems like a jab at The Force Awakens

Spaceballs 2: AI John Candy
Doubtful; Mel is old school about cinema and John is beloved. If anything they’d mock AI.
It’ll be like the new Naked gun movie where the poster had ‘no AI was used in making this poster’ and he clearly had an early Dall-e 3 hand generated.

Spaceballs 3 will be called “Spaceballs: The Other One”
Knowing how beloved the original was, I finally watched it recently. In order to like it I’d have to overlook how offensively the Leia parody was written. It’s a depiction I’d expect from a boomer chud who can’t get laid.
I do not intend to watch the sequel.
Definitely don’t watch Blazing Saddles, then. I think you might explode.
Why? because characters in blazing saddles were racist? No, that movie was great and doesn’t fall into the issue I’m complaining about. Now, if the main character was a racist characature, then I’d take issue.
Blazing saddles makes fun of racists. Spaceballs makes fun of women.
It’s easy to infer you wouldn’t understand considering your lack of understanding for what they were doing on Spaceballs. I guess you’re just more comfortable with racism so it let you notice what was actually going on.
