In an interview the founder of Scamazon is trying to move the discussion around wealth taxes away from himself and his Epstein class. He’s only got one thing right of the “Tax Wealth, Not Work” movement namely, don’t tax work. Wealth still has to tax wealth, otherwise it won’t solve anything.

No, he should pay his fair share of taxes. We need to close the loopholes of borrowing money based on stock assets and not declaring it as income.

His “fair share” should include a much higher marginal rate than he would see even if the loans he actually spends were considered income. He’s well into the self-actualization tier of Maslow’s hierarchy; he doesn’t get to have more money than God and still pay the same rate as people who are struggling to have their basic needs met.

    No dude fuck that.

I pay my shit and you should pay the same exact percentage of total income that I pay.

I worked a 10 hour shift the other day at $20/hr but after taxes its like I worked one hour for free and this will happen every single shift I will work until I die.

but meanwhile this dude has more money than god and wants to weasel out of his fair share.

What the fuck is up with that? I don’t mind paying my fair share I like roads and people to have housing and food if they need it because I’m not a greedy pig.

But why do you and I have to do that and people like this get rewarded for how much they avoid doing that? That starts to weigh on me more and more lately.

No, he should pay a higher percentage. Inequality is objectively bad for society and tax policy should be intentionally designed to reduce it.

Yeah, we have a progressive tax system (in theory) for a reason. People earning next to nothing shouldn’t be paying taxes. People earning millions should be paying a shit load of taxes. The idea of a flat tax is robbery against the poor.

I mean, yes, being unfair to the poor is a big reason. But what I was really getting at is how, in the long run, it’s suicidal for the rich, too. Inequality is what makes societies collapse.

You think those spoiled fucks know the first thing about any practical skill that would aid in becoming a warlord? This is a caste of people so useless that they pay people to produce blood for them. The moment currency is over, so are the chances that anyone with that absurd level of entitlement has any chance of long-term survival.

Eh, I strongly prefer progressive taxation. But yeah, I want everyone who has enough to pay taxes so we can all have a functioning government that tests our food, builds infrastructure, all that crap. I pay my share, he should too.

The thing is, the rich don’t have income (at least on paper). An income tax on the rich is useless therefore. We need to tax their wealth, which is what makes them rich.

But otherwise, I share your ire. Fuck these dudes not paying their fair share.

He doesn’t make “Income”. All his money in all invested and “cannot be taxed”

But he can get loans on his investments and is able to live off of that…tax free.

if YOU own a house and got a mortgage, you could do the same but oops, you need to pay property taxes, etc.

      I see a problem here.

We saw what a megabrain CEO did to the government as soon he got his grimy hands on it. He completely fucked it up. FElon thought he would make the government lean and efficient but what a disaster that was.

I mean, only if you take his stated goal at face value. Personally I think the mass firings and dismantlement of longstanding programs were all a smokescreen for whatever he was really after, most likely stealing data and funneling those salaries/budgets into his own pockets somehow.

Jeff Bozo would not be any different, which would lead to a result nowhere close to what he’s stating. Government run by a CEO is never going to be efficient because they are never going to aim for efficiency but for wealth.

The concept that government should be run like a corporation is one of those things that makes sense on the surface, but not when you understand it.

Think of all the corporations in America. The government is bigger than ALL of them combined. And the govt has lots to do besides that.

The skill set to manage all the moving parts of a government is completely different from the skill set required to operate a corporation. The mentality is wildly different. A CEO has to consider profit over EVERYTHING, but a President shouldn’t be considering profit at all.

corporate goals, skills, and experience are very difference for a Corporation than the Government, and we need to elect those who have the proper skills, and mindset.

Just how much money did Amazon employees receive in government aid because Amazon isn’t paying them a livable wage? Maybe everybody’s tax bill would go down if the state stopped subsiding hugely profitable corporations?

Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

There’s this tale of two economies. You have a bunch of people in this country who are doing really well, but you also have a bunch of people in this country who are struggling, struggling to pay rent, groceries.

    Yep, with ya so far.

Politicians are using age old techniques of picking a villain and pointing fingers. But the problem is that doesn’t solve anything.

No fuck that. The reason that it doesn’t solve anything is that for every one politician who has the balls to speak against wealth inequality, Bezos and other billionaires have bought and paid for another 50 to ensure that inequality continues.

Except that corpos will just raise prices instead of reducing profits, and that’s how you get inflation, then $30 is worth less again. In the meantime, the price of shares also goes up, so the ownership class suffers not a whit.

I’m not saying minimum wage is currently correct, just that raising it only has a short term benefit.

I don’t think any of these problems are going to be solved with policy.

The thing about raising wages is that it does cause inflation, but it’s never 1 to 1. The public gains purchasing power which is what we sorely need.

I don’t disagree; I said it was a short term benefit. Because you’ll have to fight every single time to get that wage raised again when necessary.

Minimum wage means different things to labor and owners. Labor means “i can support myself on this without having to worry.” Owners mean “This is the least we have to pay to forestall revolution.”

In an ideal world we would peg minimum wage to maximum executive bonus pay or Senate salary or something like that. It just surprises me that all we ever hear these days to solve a problem is a tax cut when there is another big lever we haven’t touched for decades.
